The Lithosphere is the area which contains all the land. It is in the center, being above the hydroshpere and below the atmosphere. It contains land organisms such as the insects, the mammals and the plants. Even though mountains extend up to the atmosphere, their base starts at the lithosphere, which characterizes them under Lithosphere. The word "Litho" means land.
